Correlation of molecular and morphologic effects of thermoembolization in a swine model using mass spectrometry imaging
AbstractHepatocellular carcinoma is a growing worldwide problem with a high mortality rate. This malignancy does not respond well to chemotherapy, and most patients present late in their disease at which time surgery is no longer an option. Over the past three decades, minimally invasive methods have evolved to treat unresectable disease and prolong survival. Intra ‐arterial embolization techniques are used for large or multiple tumors but have distressingly high levels of local recurrence and can be costly to implement. A new method called thermoembolization was recently reported, which destroys target tissue by combini...

Biomarker Analyses of Clinical Outcomes in Patients With Advanced Hepatocellular Carcinoma Treated With Sorafenib With or Without Erlotinib in the SEARCH Trial.
CONCLUSIONS: Baseline plasma HGF, VEGF-A, KIT, and VEGF-C correlated with clinical outcomes in HCC patients treated with sorafenib with or without erlotinib. These biomarkers plus epigen constituted a multimarker signature for improved OS. PMID: 27220960 [PubMed - as supplied by publisher]

Molecules, Vol. 23, Pages 567: Identification and Characterizations of Novel, Selective Histone Methyltransferase SET7 Inhibitors by Scaffold Hopping- and 2D-Molecular Fingerprint-Based Similarity Search
heng Luo Kai Chen SET7, serving as the only histone methyltransferase that monomethylates ‘Lys-4’ of histone H3, has been proved to function as a key regulator in diverse biological processes, such as cell proliferation, transcriptional network regulation in embryonic stem cell, cell cycle control, protein stability, heart morphogenesis and development. What′s more, SET7 is involved inthe pathogenesis of alopecia aerate, breast cancer, tumor and cancer progression, atherosclerosis in human carotid plaques, chronic renal diseases, diabetes, obesity, ovarian cancer, prostate cancer, hepatocellular carcinoma, and ...

Novel approaches in search for biomarkers of cholangiocarcinoma
World J Gastroenterol. 2022 Apr 21;28(15):1508-1525. doi: 10.3748/wjg.v28.i15.1508.ABSTRACTCholangiocarcinoma (CCA) arises from the ductular epithelium of the biliary tree, either within the liver (intrahepatic CCA) or more commonly from the extrahepatic bile ducts (extrahepatic CCA). This disease has a poor prognosis and a growing worldwide prevalence. The poor outcomes of CCA are partially explained by the fact that a final diagnosis is challenging, especially the differential diagnosis between hepatocellular carcinoma and intrahepatic CCA, or distal CCA and pancreatic head adenocarcinoma. Most patients present with an a...
